11/30/2002 Entry: "Birthday Thing"
Well, as some of you may have read/seen/heard today is my 8th Annual 29th Birthday. Many of the BB Members gathered to meet and shoot at BPS (Bass Pro Shop) N of DFW Airport.
As you may have read (on the BB) I was a little tardy HOWEVER I really do have a couple of VERY good excuses:
ITEM: When showering this morning I noticed that the water was not draining terribly well. We have had issues a couple of times before with the drains but have treated with Drane-O and all seemed to be OK. It wasn't. I had to get out a plunger and plunge the shower drain. From the back of the casa I hear my bride hollering that the back shower and toilet were 'gurgling' and started to overflow (mind you NO one showers in the back or had used that potty in several hours).
Peachy. So we had to call Rotor-Rooter who, after taking a GREAT deal of information on our situation, scheduled a 'Technician' to call on us between 11 and 1 today. well, it's after 2PM and no Roto-Guy.
ITEM: I am on my way to BPS at 0835 when I hear on the radio that there's a wreck right on my route. Swell. I went about 6 miles in a blazing 25 minutes due to the accident and the ensuing carloads of people snapping photos, etc. of the wreck. I still had some 20 miles to go to the BPS so I FINALLY get rolling at about 0856 which is about when I call Hugh to tell him I am in traffic (documentation).
ITEM: I get to BPS only to find that Frank (The Greeter) was having to read the turnstile gizmos for their attendance reports..... so I wait... and wait... and wait... whilst Frank reads the numbers. Then it was time for the "20 Questions" segment of the morning which went like this:
Frank: "Name?"
Me: "Stephen"
F: "What makes of guns?"
S: "Uh, HK and Glock"
F: "Calibers?"
S: "9, 45 and... uh, 9 and 45."
F: "Clips?"
S: "None."
F: >>Looking at me funny now...<<
S: "I have 8 MAGAZINES."
F: "Ammo?"
S: "84,500 rounds."
F: >>blank stare<<
S: "300 rounds, Frank - just play along ;-) "
F: "OK - let's lock 'em up."
S: "Do you think they will EVER go back to the old way of doing things here?"
F: "Nope - not in my lifetime!"
S: >>chuckling to myself as Frank is about 88<< "Right-o Frank."
So I FINALLY get through the BPS Veil O Security and Question and Answer Session only to make my way to the range where I was met by a heart-warming round of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" sung/spoke by all!
After throwing several hundred rounds down range it was time to mosey on over to the Snack Emporium for coffee and, much to my surprise and delight, a coffee cake from Hugh!
As usual - great conversations and fun were had by all (especially the talk about the Concealed Stinger License).
Thanks for coming guys! I really did have fun! Sorry I was late.
