Tripp's handywork is outstanding. Sorry for hogging bandwidth, but wanted to show the awesome detail. The inside of the frame looks like a Swiss watch...I am very happy with the attention to detail and the quality of the finish and service.

Hey, that looks just like one of my P7M8s! Seriously, though, that's some nice work, and mine done by Tripp Research looks the same. My P7 PSP is there right now for hard-chroming.

Nice work...can they also remove mill marks and is it extra?....just curious because Ford does and includes it in the price. also, what was the total price?

This looks great! How much does he charge to do this?

My P7M8 was not a refurb, so I don't know with certainty that Tripp will remove the mill marks. I seem to recall reading that someone else had Tripp remove the mark and hard chrome, and was very happy...you should check directly with Virgil (he is a fine gunsmith so he should be able to do it). Also, if you let him know that "others" include it in the refinish price, he may include it in his price.

Price for mine was $175 plus $12 for an extra magazine, plus shipping. No doubt that this is $40 - 50 more than I could get elsewhere, but:

- Virgil had done some work on my Sig and the detail and look of the finish was outstanding (not a single imperfection)
- I knew Virgil's work would preserve the proof marks
- The turnaround was 10 days door-to-door, and this was my Father's day present, so I wanted it back before this weekend
- Virgil will not chrome the piston/cylinder or the barrel bore. That is my preference.

Good luck.

I had no idea the squeeze-cocking mechanism was SO intricate! Simply amazing if you ask me - or not settling on a compromise blah blah.

Is this a way to skip a middleman? Can Tripps (or similar hard chromer) act as the rec'ing FFL on a gun deal? In this way, I buy a P7 and have it shipped directly to the hard chromer for some work and then shipped ot me? Can they handle the transfer? The downside is that you can't see the gun in its original condition before you rec it?!

Johnny,

I'm pretty sure you could do it as described (seller to Tripp to you) because Tripp has an FFL. I wanted to get a complete inspection of my purchase for peace of mind before having anyone work on it (worth $25 in my book). Good luck.

Today I put 110 rounds through my P7 (first time firing a P7 at all). What a hoot! Maybe HK should take the tag line from BMW: "P7: The ultimate firing machine"

I really enjoyed the mild recoil, and the absolute accuracy (very little muzzle flip to deal with, but there was a good bit of muzzle flash). The gun was flawless with UMC, Winchester Whitebox, and 12 rounds of Gold Dots. I am gonna love this thing. Cleaning took three passes with Breakfree and patches...quite a dirty mess to deal with, but well worth it. Thanks guys for all the advice, suggestions, and help!!!

Is it me or does Tripp's finish just look so much better than Metalife's / Metaloy's etc.???? I guess that's worth the extra $45 or so! Gorgeous gun Cruzer! I'll be sending my refurb to Tripp as soon as I find a decent set of night sights.

I think it MIGHT have more to do with the quality of the pictures. I think the only way to get a good look at the difference between the different Chroming Companies would be to have guns with the same type of Chrome job, from the different manufacturers compared using the same high quality Digital Camera. Which I believe someone else suggested doing in an earlier thread.
Either way I'd look forward to a good comparison of the jobs done by the different Chrome companies. I think that they're all going to be pretty similar though. I don't think anyone has had a particularly negative experience with any of them. Except perhaps by order Matte, instead of brushed Chrome.

I own three P7s, as indicated in my signature line below. One of my P7M8s was refinished by Tripp Research with a satin/matte hard chrome. My P7 PSP is there now being given the same finish, but with brush flats on the two sides of the slide, because the original finish on those areas was highly polished from the factory, with a nice grain. I'll post photos of both after I get back from a vacation that I start today.
