For owner info on the 556 search on sigforum.com..lot's of input. Basically the jury seems to be out. Some think they are great, some like them but are disappointed, mainly because they were hoping for a semi 540/541 and got something very different. Haven't really read about anyone that hates them or any big problems. It seems like the HK SL8, anyone who can afford a 54X kit is converting them, very expensive proposition considering the base rifle is expensive to begin with.

The S&W is basically your decked out AR. Nothing new and a pretty proven platform. Everything I have heard about them says they are quality.

With the price of Ammo these days, and you want a close quarter carbine / rifle - that has a pistol with the same caliber - then this may be the ticket.. But the price still is about double of many of the MR-15's out there.

I have heard great things about the S&W's, heard great things about the Robinsons. Haven't shot either yet.

There are SO many black guns now made by all these different people.

I have had a few and honestly, the things that seemed to make the most difference was having a good barrel and a plated bolt carrier. And a good trigger was nice. I had a DPMS that had a great trigger and ran like a top. Picked up one in the store the other day and ran the action. Felt gritty. And the trigger sucked. Go figure.
